July 8, 2009 Hi Folks, I'm starting to get the rhythm of staying in more than going out. You can see my new office above and I must admit, it is kind of nice having some space to write, play and teach. It is really quite comfortable and a with the ac on you don't notice that it is 110°f or above this time of year. Teaching at San Diego's Old Time Music shop is really taking off. In fact, I've added a second day to accomodate the folks wanting lessons. SO, starting this week, I'll be there on Fridays as well as Satuday this coming weekend (July 10 & 11) and every other week once we get back west in August. I have a few spots for this week so if you are interested in getting started right away, please e-mail me directly. I am available to teach Clawhammer Banjo, Old Time Fiddle and Old Timey back up guitar style. I'll be starting east next week on Monday the 13th in order to go to the NAMM show in Nashville and get back to Ohio by the 19th to get ready for Clawcamp. "SO, what about Clawcamp?," you ask. Well, we are well past the halfway mark for Clawcamp East but we can still take a few more students. Just a reminder Bob Carlin joins us this year and we have rented the wonderful facilities of Fur Peace Ranch over in Miegs county AND your tuition includes air conditioned cabin space AND all of your meals. Yes, the instruction space is air conditioned also, so it should be a wonderful and comfortable weekend. As for Clawcamp West we have set it for February 26-28 and there in San Diego!!! I'll have more details once I get back from Ohio. On the way back don't forget we'll be stopping in the Dallas area for the Acoustic Music Camp August 6-8. We (yes, Miss Jennifer will be there) will be teaching a Clawhammer course again this year. Still some space available but sign up as soon as you can. There is one scholarship available from Chuck Lee banjos this year. Go to the Lee Banjos website blog to apply. I a bit more than halfway through recording the "advanced" fiddle versions of the Old Time Festival Tunes books and hope to have it to Mel Bay by the end of August for posting on the download site there. I'll let you know here as always. AND am back on the Fiddle From Scratch book which yes, has been taking a long time. Sorry, but being in one place for extended periods along with being able to work in something of a real office space has helped. Finally, Bob Carlin and I are working on a book of transcriptions that I'm sure you will enjoy. For now I'll only tell you that it will be some great standards tabbed out multiple ways. I'm hoping to have at least a draft copy of our first volume by Clifftop. I suspect that is enough info for now, so stay tooned and... Play nice!
